FLUTTERBYS

Short Time on Proctor Creek

Jay and Franca and I went over to Westside Reservoir Park on the 2nd. There are many things that signal the park is new. Since I’m into lichen and fungi I’m on the lookout. There is some lichen on the trees but, for the most part, the rocks are bare. And there are many signs of construction; bricks barely under the surface, sticking out, concrete slabs the same, strange shaped promontories.

Nevertheless we had a great walk and as usual the sparrows love Proctor’s Creek just off the trail. We saw a Pileated Woodpecker fly over twice, heard a Towhee or two, saw a Ruby-crowned Kinglet or two… had a great time, came home and ate gumbo.

It may be a few years before WRP comes up to good habitat for all the animals. Apparently there are enough seeds for the sparrows now.
