Busy Couple of Days

Last week I went with Jay to Kennesaw Mountain Historical Park, up the mountain and down, looking for birds and anything else. We saw a Black-throated Blue Warbler right out of the gate. Through the afternooon there were vireos, tanagers, we saw both Scarlet and Summer Tanagers, a few woodpeckers and raptors, Palm Warbler, Chipping Sparrows… bunch of birds. Weather was great and we did about 9500 steps… for me that’s the limit unless I take a break for about an hour.

Lots of wildflowers and I’m more attuned to see Lichens and Mosses than I have been in the past. I saw a skipper I had never seen as well, a Poanes zabulon, Zabulon Skipper.

The trail (road) up the mountain is well traveled with many different kinds of travelers, fellow birders, families out for a trek even small corporate groups talking about business while pacing through nature. Sounded kinda out of place.

Then Saturday Franca, Jay and I went to Morgan Falls Park kayaking. It was our first trip this spring and it was great. The weather was really good and we had a fine time. Right after we launched the boats a Bald eagle flew over. Throughout the day we heard a lot of birds, saw a couple of Spotted Sandpipers, a Lesser Yellowlegs and several swallows, Nothern Rough-winged and Barn, maybe a Tree Swallow… not sure. Good day.
